What to do in the Golden City of Jaisalmer -2

Known as the Golden City of Rajasthan, Jaisalmer is the most famous of its sand dunes.

Although most people are limited to sand dunes, there are many things to do in Jaisalmer. So I made a list of all the things that need to be done and places to explore here.

1. Jaisalmer Fort

An adjustable yellow-stone fort, built by the ruler of Rajput Raval Jaisal, stands in the center of the city. In ancient times, this desert city was limited to the borders of the Fort. Today, due to the growing population, the boundaries of the city have spread. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and sometimes the only “living fort” in the world. The descendants of the royal family and other caste-based communities helping the ruler continue to live here to the present.

2. Patwon Ki Haveli

Havelis or mansions were commonplace in Jaisalmer. Guman Chand Patva was a wealthy banker and servant of a ruler who built his own mansion but could not finish it. Later, I finished his 5 sons and, therefore, the name of Patwon Ki Haveli. I think it's pretty understandable why. As soon as you find yourself in a narrow alley leading to Havelis, you are stunned by the complexity of carved, yellow stones of jharokhas (windows) and balconies.

3. Lake Gadisar

Along one kilometer from Amara Field (Gate) of the Fort is Lake Gadsisar. This is another famous tourist destination. You can do a lot of things, such as boating, feed a cat’s fish and visit a sunset point. Historically, this small lake used water for the entire city of Jaisalmer!

4. Salim Singh Ki Haveli

Salim Singh Ki Haveli is one of the few old structures built outside the fortifications. Legend has it that the Minister of the Kingdom Salim Singh disagreed with the ruler and decided to build his own haveli further from the city. A distinctive feature of this haveli is how the roof was built in the shape of a peacock. The family of descendants still occupied space in this haveli. They provide a tour-oriented contribution that explains interesting things about history and people.

5. Sam Sand Dunes

These are the most famous sand dunes just 40-45 km from the city of Jaisalmer. In February, you can also see camel races as part of the Desert Festival, which is held annually. You can either go to the cultural desert safaris, where you will stay in luxurious tents or temporary huts. However, to get a rich desert experience, you should try going to Wild Safari. It plunges you deeper into the dunes, away from the crowd.
