Lack of use of electricity to stop electricity associated with poor economies -2

Many truck drivers are still not aware of truck stop electrification technology, and a recent survey conducted through social networks was conducted taking into account the attitude of drivers to TSE.

The following are questions, driver answers and industry analysis from the survey:

  • Do you own the operator, leasing operator or driver of the company? 31.1% responded to the owner of the operator with 8.9% as a rented and 60% driver of the company.

Analysis: Since companies realized that logistics is a critical element of their strategy, truck operations were commissioned or contracted with major national fleet operators. Thus, a high percentage of respondents who consider themselves “company drivers” are consistent with industry trends.

  • How many hours do you spend on the road every year? 0-100 = 11.1%, 101-200 = 8.9%, 201-300 = 40% and 301+ = 40%.

Analysis: Road haulage remains the most important element of the country's transport infrastructure. With the exponential growth of e-commerce and its network of ensuring the reliability of centers close to human settlements, a significant range of transportation by truck has increased. In turn, drivers spend more and more nights from their home base.

  • Where do you usually go for the night? Company terminal = 26.7%, consignor-sender = 48.9%, rest area = 57.8%, truck stop = 86.7%, other = 22.2%.

Analysis: To date, TSE facilities have focused on marketing at truck stops and recreational areas throughout the country. While these are the most important places to meet TSE drivers ’needs, a huge opportunity to save fuel and reduce emissions involves installing equipment at delivery and receiving points. TSE is currently working on installing its technological equipment for JFK Air Cargo equipment. This pilot program will provide an invaluable insight into the value of TSE in the shipper’s / consignee’s parking lot.

  • Do you have many nights? Yes = 42.2%, no = 57.8%

Analysis: TSE internal field studies show that the main alternative to idling is a sleeping bag and drivers. tolerance to discomfort. Although it saves fuel and reduces emissions, drivers do not get a full night's rest, which in turn affects their day-to-day combat readiness and overall road safety.

  • Does your company provide APU? Yes = 28.9%, no = 71.1%

Analysis: APU is an important technology. However, costs and weight (over 400 pounds) were significant inhibitors. There is no national law that excludes the weight of an APU from the total weight limits. With an emphasis on maximizing the loads, the weighting factor is significant.

  • Does your company pay for TSE services? Yes = 6.7%, no = 93.3%
  • Does your company pay for hotel rooms instead of idling? Yes = 6.7%, no = 93.3%

Analysis: Shipping companies have done little to provide an alternative to idle. Over 93% of drivers reported that their employers did not pay for using or living in TSE. Since these same employees will pay for fuel, few drivers have an incentive to turn off their engines. Even in cases where the company will cover the cost of alternatives to idle, drivers report that reimbursement is slow.

  • Does your company provide fuel bonus? Yes = 24.4%, No = 75.6%

Analysis. Again, there is a gap between driver rewards and TSE financial savings, which includes lower fuel consumption and reduced engine wear. Over 75% of drivers do not receive incentives to reduce fuel consumption.

  • Do you regularly see TSE places where you close the night? Yes = 8.9%, no = 91.1%
  • Do you regularly send TSE destinations? Yes = 35.6%, no = 64.4%

Analysis. The biggest challenge for the industry is the easily accessible TSE sites, especially along the main trunk corridors. The study clearly shows that there is a lot to do to make TSE objects omnipresent.

  • Have you ever tried truck stop electrification (TSE) services before? Yes = 28.9%, no = 71.1%

Analysis: An electric vehicle stop makes sense for drivers. Even with limited availability, almost 30% of respondents polled it.

  • If your company paid for using TSE, would you try? Yes = 86.7%, no = 13.3%

Analysis. Obviously, the biggest obstacle to using TSE is economic. As can be seen from the previous answers, most drivers have no incentive to save fuel. If the idle protection were covered by freight companies, use would increase significantly.

In November 2012, a truck electrification survey was conducted.
