How to clean sheepskin carpets -2

There is nothing special about the luxurious and soft feel of genuine sheepskin to add wonderful warmth to any room. But after the usual, everyday movement, they begin to show dirt. So the question is, how do you clean these rugs?

Of course, if your sheepskin rug comes with certain care instructions, be sure to follow them, as this may void any warranty. However, if you do not have these instructions, this is what we share with our customers.

Regular care:

Before washing, many sheepskin carpets can be supported by simply cleaning the fibers with a wire brush and then shaking the skin or even vacuuming with a fixing lever — not one that uses a spinning rod, as it can damage the fibers.

Washing methods:

• Cleaning stains: with one of the soaps mentioned in the “Soap” section below.
• Machine washable with a soft cycle or hand wash in cold or warm water. We do not recommend washing dark colored skins in the washing machine, as the color may fade or bleed. For stubborn dirt, you can soak in a sheepskin cleaner / shampoo for 20 minutes.
• You can also dry clean sheepskin using either white spirits or a hydrocarbon or perchlorethylene.

Water temperature:

Water should not exceed more than 100 degrees.

Soap:

Use only a mild detergent and detergents that are not alkaline, non-cult and do not contain biological enzymes. Bleach / enzymes counteract the tanning process that can damage sheepskin. We recommend pure Castilian or biodegradable camp soaps, such as Kookaburra wool washing. Do NOT use Woolite or laundry detergents such as Tide.

Drying:

The line is dry or dry flat and stretches to form while it is still wet. For even better results, you can clean the sheepskin with a wire brush to help unravel the fibers. No matter what you do, do NOT dump dry sheepskin carpets into the dryer. Even the most gentle settings can cause your sheepskin rug to shrink or harden the skins.

After drying, giving your sheepskin carpet a bright shake, you can restore the soft fluffy appearance of the wool.

If you plan to store your mat after cleaning, make sure that it is completely dry. Then choose a cool, airy place that is not in direct sunlight, such as a large closet. We do not recommend storing sheepskin products in plastic bags for a long period of time. Plastic will not allow fibers to breathe properly; therefore, condensation can occur in warm conditions, which over time will damage the sheepskin skin.

Sheepskin rugs are a great investment for your home, but with proper care, cleaning and storage you can enjoy sheepskin rug for years.
