One of the most popular restaurants in the area is in the south of Rosarito in the Popotla section. In Splash, the waves fall over the black volcanic rock and provide an impressive backdrop for the freshest seafood that is bought daily. Nicolas Santos, the owner serves margaritas and cold beer with the attitude that you are now his friend, if you are in his institution. A fish burrito large enough to cook with a mug of dark Mexican beer, only leaving you about $ 5. Night music for dancing.
Another of my favorites is called Lighthouse. Located near the famous La Fonda in La Mision, this place is right on the water with many windows and open seating to accommodate large parties or the ever-popular nights of the fight with lamb and pork barbecue. The owner, George McCord, brings the music of Ensenada, like a Cuban band last night that filled the dance floor.
Ensenada has many fine restaurants, including the Mahi Mahi, Sanos and Bellios on the top floor, if you require impeccable service in an atmosphere conducive to relaxed conversation. Along the promenade there are many small restaurants serving seafood seafood and fish tacos. In this area there are sea, french, italian, chinese, japanese and steakhouse.
Try the Tapanco steak house in Rosarito to try Sonoran beef. Dinner starts with salsa cooked at your table, to your preference for the amount of hot chilli. The salad tray is then washed away with several excellent dressings to make the salad in its own way. Then enjoy the cream of cream, beans and fresh herbs. All this before you get a preference for entrée. Imagine all this for about $ 15 with the exception of drinks, taxes and tips.
Fish taco is the creation of this area and should be chosen if you like fish. The average cost of a fish or meat taco is a dollar. It is considered fast food in the area and is quite tasty and easy to find. Fish tacos come in one or two small corn tortillas. Fish or shrimp are fried in very hot oil to seal in the juice of the fish without being very oily. Direct them to a crushed cage, salsa, if you like, and juice from lime juice. The tacos meat is made mainly of carne asada, which is very thinly sliced beef, cooked quickly over hot coals, or made again in very hot oil. Try both if you can, and you will see which one you prefer. Rare freshly selected ones are cleaned and ready to accompany your tacos for you, and fried onions are very common.
Locals know where the best restaurants are, so ask when you stop for this margarita to quench your thirst after going down here. The service may be slower than you expect, if you are from the states, but relax, this is Mexico. Look at the wonderful coastline or mountains or desert where you are currently located. Remember, your goal is to relax.
The cozy rooms are clean and have regular soap, water and paper towels for your use. This is true even near many taco booths. This was not necessarily the case nine years ago when I moved here. Standards are very close to the Americans. The days when you had to be very careful in drinking water or getting sick in a restaurant are long gone if you use common sense. Food poisoning almost does not exist, as it can destroy a business in a very short time. There are restaurant inspections, both in the north. Some places even publish their good reports for viewing. Again, the best link to a place to eat is to stop and ask someone.
