If you have children and you either live in Perth, or plan to visit Perth, and you are wondering what you could do with the children, here are some tips that will help Perth worthy of the whole family:
1. Hitkot Reserve
The Hitkot Reserve is a great place on the Swan River, on top of a hill, with stunning views of the Swan River and the city of Perth. It has a great playground for kids (a bit like a pirate ship) and barbecue equipment. There is also a small cafe near where good coffee is sold, as well as the Blue Water Grill restaurant, if you want to go for something more prestigious.
You can relax and enjoy the view with a cup of coffee while the children play in the large playground, or the whole family can go down a few steps to the river bank and walk along the water. This place is worth a visit!
Just a careful word: the playground is not very suitable for really small children, there is a section for small children, but most of the playground is to climb and descend or go down. I only felt good when my children ran there when they were 4-5 years old. If they are younger, you should be tiptoeing.
2. Walter Point
Also on the Swan River, Point Walter is a meeting place for many game groups and families, for barbecues on lazy Sundays. You can have a picnic under the shady trees right by the river, and there is a cafe / restaurant where take-away food is also sold. Children can play in the river (very shallow) or in the playground. Absolutely beautiful!
3. Embankment Sorrento / AQWA
In the north of the river, the Sorrento Quay is a fabulous place to stay in Perth. It is located right on the Indian Ocean and has many shops and small restaurants (this section is called “Boardwalk”). For example, you can grab great fish and chips or just ice cream for kids! Nearby is the AQWA, Western Australia Aquarium, which is worth a visit. And to top it all, for children, there is also an amusement park that my child has always loved, which has attractive places for all ages.
These are just a few suggestions on what to do in Perth with the kids. There are a ton more things to do and see. Perth is a beautiful downtown city, and it has heaps offered for everyone!
