Choosing the right cleaning method will help increase the lifespan of carpets and areas. Here are 10 of the best carpet cleaning tips to help remove ordinary stains, spills and tags.

Our cleaning tips will also help increase your knowledge of environmentally friendly ways to get and hold carpets, rugs, upholstery, leather furniture, floors and mattresses.

• Pour red wine or dark sherry - keep the stain moist. On a light carpet spray with water or club soda or white wine if water is not available. Then blot the cloth from the outer edges of the stain to prevent it from spreading. This tool is best suited for polyester and blends. Note. Removing stains from dry, clean tissue can cause permanent damage.

• Spilling coffee - immediately wipe away spilled coffee. Wipe the area with warm water containing carpet shampoo or cleaning fluid. Another option is to sponge the area with a solution of baking soda and water. Rinse with cold water. When the coffee stain is dry, apply one part with glycerin and one part with warm water. It is available at the local pharmacy in the emergency room.

• Ballpoint pen - wipe a little with alcohol on a clean white pad. Sponge with warm water several times and blot dry. It is available at the local pharmacy in the emergency room.

• Drinking beer - should be treated with a syringe of soda water or a sponge with clean warm water. Rinse well and treat the remaining stain with a carpet shampoo.

• Lubricate the tags - use baking soda or cornmeal generously shed through stains, then lightly stuff over a pile of carpet, leave overnight and the next day.

• Cigarette damage - remove charred tips with a finger on a woolen rug. A solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide, applied to the discoloration of light carpet mixtures. It is available at a local pharmacy in hair products or in the emergency room.

• Chewing gum stuck - apply to carpet, ice, to harden, take away the chewing gum, so that they use white alcohol for the remainder. Rinse with cold water and blot dry.

• Orange pop stain - can be removed by dissolving one spoonful of the popular brand of borax - Mule 20 Borax in warm water 275 ml. Ruin the tense area, but don't wet the carpet. If necessary, use shampoo for carpet. Mule 20 Borax is available at the local supermarket in the cleaning section.

• Soot spraying - never soak a soot stain. Cover the soot with salt on the carpet. Brush with a hard brush and repeat the process until the stain disappears.

• Wool mat wound on heavy furniture - place an ice cube or 1 tbsp. water in every dent. When dry, thoroughly clean the vacuum, and the heap will appear as new.
