Do not underestimate how important it is to make sure that you choose body jewelry that have a suitable wearable area.
Cribs are commonly used in eyebrows, on tongue, cartilage and nipple piercings. The carrying area of the bar is the length of the bar between the balls — not the length of the entire piece of jewelry. If your barbell is curved, for example, for your eyebrow or PA piercing, you need to measure the space between the balls at the shortest point (inside the curve). The bar should not fit so tightly that the balls press on the skin - there should be a little room to move.
Labret studs (and their buddy monroe stud) are used in various places of lip piercings and are often also worn in piercings. The wearable track / monster area is the length of the rod between the ball and the disk.
Rings for closing the ball (BCR) - this is another kettle of fish (fish - piranha - fish! Get it!). The wearable area BCR is the inner diameter of the ring. The same goes for circular rods and segment rings. The larger the caliber of the ring, the more important that you get it right - otherwise you will get a gem that could be bigger than you expected! Owch!
Some types of jewelry have no choice, such as nasal hairpins and body spirals, which are law for themselves and are quite flexible and versatile in terms of their conformity.
Ornaments for ear decoration are diluted into traffic jams / tunnels and expanders / tapering. First consider the traffic jams / tunnels. They are almost identical in appearance, but what is important is whether you look at the saddle or flash. The saddle has a bit more flexibility in its wearable area, since it does not reach an abrupt stop, like a flash. However, you do not want your ear hanging over the edge of your saddle to be too noticeable! Some flashes can be quite square, especially acrylic / surgical steel and screw styles. In any case, the true wearable area for traffic jams and tunnels is the measurement of the front and rear (and not the measurement, as many people believe). Many styles do not offer you an option, while some brands, such as Kaos Softwear, offer a number of wearable areas to choose from. Usually, the size of the wearable material becomes smaller as the index increases.
Expanders / capers offer the best flexibility in a wearable area that includes a spreader, and so on, as long as your ears are ridiculously massive, they should fit almost any correct calibration expander without slamming around too much. You can always use a pair (or only one) sealing ring to hold it in place.
I probably missed some of them, but this covers all the basic styles of body jewelry. Choose carefully!
