Blessing of Montezuma, Costa Rica -2

Montezuma is located in the south of the Nicoya Peninsula. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations due to its proximity to other Costa Rica sights, such as Cabo Blanco, the first national park in Costa Rica, Tortuga Island and Kuru Wildlife Sanctuary.

The beaches of Montezuma are wide, the sand is soft and clean, and the water can be quite temperamental, depending on the time of year, like many beaches on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. From these beaches you can see the sunrise, usually from 5:30 in the morning.

The most popular of the best trails in Montezuma are:

  • Waterfalls: they are about a 10-minute walk from the city center (albeit 10 in slippers and 15 in barefoot), or a couple of minutes with a car (there is a parking lot). It consists of three waterfalls, neatly laid on top of each other and a height of more than 15 meters. The trip can be a bit intense, and sometimes you may need to use a rope (conveniently placed along the mountain, for example, the Indiana Jones kit for beginners). If you are a strong swimmer and are not afraid of heights, you can jump from a stone to the deepest pool of the second waterfall, and not because of your heart! But do not forget to do this with caution.
  • Piedra Colorada: located directly in front of the Playa Grande and immediately after the Ylang y Ylang hotel. Piedra Colorada Begins as a waterfall and ends as a small, gentle stream that flows into the ocean. Here you can enjoy the cool sweet water of the waterfalls and at the same time the ocean atmosphere, checking (or if the spirit moves you, taking part) the meditative act of “balancing stone” at the mouth of the river, created over the years by inspired tourists and locals.
  • El Chorro and Playa Cocalito: From the center of Montezuma it is about 2 1/2 hours walk / trekking on the beach. For those who do not want to walk, there is another access point from Tambor Beach, but trust me when I say that the walk is worth it (riding horses is also an option). On this trip you will get to know 4 beautiful beaches; Montezuma Beach, Piedra Colorada, Playa Grande and finally Cocalito. Here you will find the Cocalito River, whose water will delight you and intrigue you, hot at the bottom and cooling down on the surface. From the river you will see "El Chorro". waterfall. This is a majestic place where fresh water flows and merges with the ocean, like nature roasting itself in a job well done. Once in El Chorro, if you still have it in you after a hike, climb the cliffs to the top and you will find a stunning view of the entire coastline that you just experienced on foot.
  • Butterfly Gardens: The gardens are lush, tropical and peaceful. A great opportunity to learn about the fascinating world of Lepidoptera (read: butterfly), you should not leave Montezuma without seeing it.

Montezuma is really a small town with two streets, but for sure it is a place where you will never be bored. There are many tours offered in this area from trips to islands, to horseback riding, to a walk on a canopy with a zipper ... and these are only daily activities! About night time, options, options, options. Enjoy a delicious dinner at one of the many unique restaurants in town or cook your own on the beach, and then watch the spontaneous jam session / fire dance from where you eat, and then grab your partner and dance in the only bar in town .., Chico & # 39; s!

Despite the fact that Montezuma is a very small town, the hotel has a wide selection of accommodation and vacations.
