Sometimes you find yourself in a situation that creates a mess of your well-planned plans.
And sometimes you find yourself in a situation that is ten times more complicated.
Sometimes budgets are cut in the company where you work ... and quickly. Or in the stock market ... well ... we don't need to go into that. We all saw the wild ride that the stock market offers. Or a key member of your company or team decides to move to another company. Worse, they were lured by your key competitor. And you have no one to fill in your knowledge and connect with customers. Or always a healthy loved one suddenly rushed to the hospital.
In chaotic times, what are you doing to simplify chaos?
And not just to simplify, but how often is it required in such bulky and unpredictable times to simplify as a last resort?
Try one or more of the following four steps:
1. Focus on one priority.
Yes, only ONE priority. When you try to rule a world that is turned upside down, you don’t need to drag and confuse trying to manipulate multiple targets. As a laser beam, narrow your focus to a single point, for now your only priority.
2. Release. Say no.
The only way you are going to let go is to say no. And if this is not easy for you, frankly, it is difficult. You need the ability to clear the undergrowth and let go of other things at the moment. In the extreme times of simplification, you find that what was once important - and maybe again later - is now far from priority. Practice the word "No" until you can say it with calm confidence to support it.
3. Pay attention.
You need simple information to collect that tells you whether you’ll be back. Find out a few key indicators you can count on. These measures resemble dials and knobs on the control panel. Then pay attention. Use them. Simply, consistently.
4. Follow up.
Take the time to see how things work ... or face the facts that they have not yet been created. If the action you are taking does not take you where you need to go, set up again. And again, if necessary. Your world is on its own, but you need your help.
Simplify as a last resort.
