Well, I finally got a chance to hunt deer in Joe Kurz Georgia WMA at the weekend, and I tell you, I was impressed more than one thing. This wildlife management area is a great place for a hunter hunting deer hunters. There were a lot of wide open fields and tons of great areas to create and hunt. Mt Carmel Rd. runs right through the WMA, and if you turn right into Germany Rd., you will have a fairly smooth dirt road that passes through some unfinished deer hunting areas of Georgia. The Flint River is bordered by a large part of Georgia WMA. I really liked the amazing primitive camping on the small lake. But believe me, when I say primitive camping, I mean primitive camping without water, without electricity, without tents, but nothing. Also, make sure that if you find yourself there on Sunday, you will have a great time working to have affordable food, because there is no wildlife in the area on Sunday.
There are several convenience stores located outside of Georgia WMA, if you are a good bite at one of the convenience stores, bringing some food with you. If you love me and most other deer hunters in Georgia, you will want real food after spending a long morning in the forest. If you are there, except Sunday, there are some good options for food. One of them is a small bitch for pizza, which I ate at Kings Pizza Barn Zoo. You can get there by traveling just a mile or two on Hwy. 85N (Turn right when you leave Georgia WMA from Mount Carmel). Another option is in a small killer hole in the BBQ wall, called Uncle C, and about ten miles from the WMA traveling on the Hwy highway. 85N. If you take the Hwy 85S, I found a terrific little diner called Smoke House Diner with home cooking and a barbecue, just make sure you stay on the Hwy 85S, and don’t accept the alternative that goes right. If you pass this little diner, you will be taken to a small platform that has only a restaurant, and another deer processor located next to a convenient store called the Venison Shop, their sign says that they specialize in deer, but I have never heard of they are nothing good or bad.
I found another deer processor exactly ten times lower than Hwy. 85N Just across the street from Uncle C's barbecue restaurant; This is the "Deer Cooler" Sportsman. I haven’t used them yet, but everyone I’m talking to didn’t have anything but good things to say about their quality, and they specialize in the country and smoked sausages, perfect for deer hunters in Georgia. For directions to the wildlife management area, probably the easiest way is to simply draw the quest Mt. Carmel Rd. City of Gay Georgia, there are several different routes you can take from Interstate 85 South from Atlanta to get them. Overall, with all my deer hunting experiences in Georgia, this one was wonderful. I got up on Thursday afternoon and stayed until Sunday afternoon, I camped using a small quiet generator and a small electric heater in my tent, I did not shoot and did not see the damn, except that I left Sunday at WMA on Sunday, but Overall, it was a great weekend. I would advise any hunter hunter hunter in Ogan to try this wildlife management zone.
