Hugh Anthony Cregg III was born in New York on July 5, 1950.

In the early 1970s, Huey Lewis played the harmonica and sang with the band Clover. They recorded several albums in the San Francisco Bay Area. Huey also plays with the band Thin Lizzy.

In 1979, he received musicians Mark Zipollina, who, by the way, to his brother, John, played with Quicksiler Messenger Service, Bill Gibson and Johnny Coll and formed the band Huey Lewis & American Express. After complaints from a credit company of the same name, the group changed its name to Huey Lewis & News in 1980. It was here that they greeted the musician Chris Heys.

Their first stand-alone album in 1980 went unnoticed. But did their second album, Picture This, give them their first hit single, “Do You Believe In Love”?

On the charts, Huey Lewis and “News” played 12 top ten singles, three of which became number one. Here are the ten biggest singles from Huey Lewis & the News, according to the Billboard weekly charts:

8. If so - 1984 - again, from the “Sport” album, the music video for this song was shot on the boardwalk beach of Santa Cruz.

9. Doing It All For My Baby - 1987 Going to the sixth number on the weekly charts, this song is from the “Fore!” Album, Huey as a symbol of Dr. Frankenstein in the video.

Huey Lewis and News had two other top ten singles: "Heart and Soul" (1983) and "I know what I like" (1987).

“The Heart of Rock & Roll” won them only a Grammy Award for Best Music Video, and “The Power of Love” was nominated for a Grammy for the year. The group also received a Grammy Award for their participation in the song “We Are The World” for African Africa in 1986.
