Ruidoso, New Mexico is located in the southern part of the state, approximately 120 miles north of El Paso, Texas. Ruidoso is a resort community of about 8,000 people that can grow to more than 30,000 people during the winter peak of our ski season and in the summer for horse racing. When the snow flies thousands of heads to the slopes of Ski Apache, owned and operated by Mescalero Apache Nation. In the summer, attention is drawn to the Rididoso Downs race, which is home to the richest horse events in the world!
If you are not skiing or racing, you may want to consider staying in Ruidoso during our “low season”. There are some outstanding values from the last week of March to mid-May or from the last week of September to Thanksgiving. During these periods, residents of the area have special offers, and in Ruidoso is replete with low-cost rooms. Local restaurants, galleries and attractions are less crowded, and you can enjoy Mountain Cool in the area.
Noted wild outlaw Western Billy Kid posted in Lincoln County, and there are many museums and displays depicting times. Smokey Bear's Capitan Park is ideal for young people and young people at heart. Especially emotional, Smokey's last resting place is in the park. Did you know that old Smokey is the only celebrity with its American zip code? Several employees respond to thousands of letters each year as the Wild Fire Safety message continues.
Ruidoso is truly an artist community. Almost everyone, the guy in the store, your waitress or the people in the neighborhood are aspiring artists. Ruidoso is alive with galleries in which all forms of imagination are represented. At least on one of the rather unique carved bears ... Ruidoso's signature!
Three casinos add an element of chance all year round. Billy the Kid casinos and two Mescalero Apache casinos will provide ample opportunities to try your luck in search of the elusive jackpot.
If you like the excitement of a noisy resort community, be sure to come in season! Ski Apache at an altitude of 12,000 feet has the largest carrying capacity in the state. More skiing ... wait less! The horse season has its magic ... with summer residents from all over the country. Naturally, the housing in Ruidoso books has been firmly established for many prime weeks. Due to the laws of supply and demand, room prices rise during the "high season". For many periods, Ruidoso is booked solid, and many are quite content to stay in neighboring communities in just an hour.
One of the most economical alternatives for living are country holidays. Private owners place their cabins, apartments and houses on the rental market when they do not occupy them. Rooms offer amenities not available in commercial spaces ... private hot tubs and billiard tables are just starting to scratch the surface. Due to fluctuating housing prices, they can be an economical and charming alternative for your stay. The key to staying in Ruidoso is ... BOOK BEFORE! It is never too early to plan this trip.
Hotel Ruidoso has various rooms for accommodation. Big chains here ... Motel 6, Hawthorn Suites, Comfort Inn and many more. Having been more than a few times in business, I have seen enough formula chains. It is clean, convenient and predictable, but again this is what they want! With my money, owned and operated hotels, cabins and lodges add charm and intrigue to your stay. No two are alike, and each has its own brand of amenities and environment. Let some of the best Ruidoso meet!
Country house in the suite. The whole house is non-smoking with 1 and 2 bedrooms. Each suite has a kitchenette and a fireplace with a common hot tub and a picnic area on site. Village Lodge is owned and operated by Charles and Jane, who have the ability to make every stay enjoyable. The lodge is located at 1000 Mechem (Hwy 48) in Ruidoso.
Further north on Highway 48 is the Casa del Cocinero Bed and Breakfast. Translated from Spanish, which will be "Chef's House". The hotel is run by Hal, who happens to be a pretty chef and one of the most helpful men I have ever met. Breakfast is an event, but other amenities, including a hot bath in the room, make Casa del Cocinero one of the most useful "finds".
Shutton Sitzmark is the touch of the old world of Europe in the heart of the mountains of New Mexico. Your hosts Todd and Laurie have a small but very comfortable hotel.
