Parks and recreation in Las Vegas and Nevada National Parks
Las Vegas is known for its casinos, wild nightlife, gambling, girls and shows; but a large area of Las Vegas offers so much more. From hiking, cycling and horseback riding to the amazing national parks of Nevada, lakes and canyons, the Las Vegas area is a recreational site. If you have a day to spare or a weekend, there are plenty of outdoor activities for everyone in Las Vegas. After spending a week drinking and gambling in dark casinos, a little exercise and sunshine can do something good for you, and Nevada National Parks will offer just that.
Red canyon
Only 20 miles from the center of Las Vegas, the Red Stone National Forest covers approximately 200,000 acres of multicolored sandstone and limestone, canyons, mountains, carwash and waterfalls, diverse flora and fauna of the desert and wildlife, including trotters, deserted rams and wild donkeys. I do not know how really "wild" bitches. While hiking, biking, climbing and seasonal camping are offered, the most popular choice is a 13-mile scenic drive through the park. Whether you are spending a day or a weekend, Red Rock Canyon offers natural scenic beauty and is worth a visit.
Lake Mead and Hoover Dam
Lake Mead is an ideal place to cool off from the summer heat. Located 25 miles east of Vegas, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area has about 1.5 million acres of desert and clear water, with 550 miles of coastline for swimming, boating, sunbathing, water skiing and fishing. Other activities include hiking, camping, horseback riding, sightseeing on the roads and wildlife photography. Wildlife Lake Mead includes bighorn sheep, mule deer, coyotes, foxes, mares, feline cats, twin rabbits and endangered desert turtles and peregrine falcons. The amazing Hoover Dam is also located next to the daily tours.
Valley of Fire
Located just six miles from Lake Mead and 55 miles from Las Vegas, Valley of Fire is the first state park in Nevada and its largest. This Nevada National Park is named after its fiery sand formations of red, purple, tanned, white, oranges and yellow, which were formed from the displacement of sand dunes, years of erosion, wind and climate. Although geology is similar to Red Rock, the park also offers early Native American culture, and their rock art and petroglyphs are found throughout the area. The area was often visited by ancient basket makers and Anasazi, who used the area for hunting and religious ceremonies. A popular stage drive is located around the “white domes”. For recreational activities there are climbing, picnic, camping and rocking.
Mount charleston
Get away from the slot machines and visit the mountain. Charleston in the fresh air, stunning views and majestic mountain landscapes and wildlife. Just 35 miles from Vegas, Mt. The Charleston Recreation Area is a pleasant relief not only for the bustle of the city, but also for the stifling desert in the summer. At an altitude of 11,918 feet, Mount Charleston is the third highest peak in Nevada. The recreation area offers 180 campgrounds, 150 picnic places, hiking, biking, picnic, horse riding, skiing and snowboarding.
Zion and Bryce Canyons
If you're feeling a bit adventurous, cross the border into Utah and visit Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park. Zion has everything from amazing river carved canyons to picturesque waterfalls. The area also has an amazing wildlife conservation of 75 species of mammals, including mountain lions and mule deer, hundreds of bird species and 32 reptiles and amphibians. In an hour from 2 hours drive to Zion, the Bryce Canyon is a geological wonder of colorful limestone with thousands of arches, spiers and mazes. Do not miss the Grand Staircase, which is a series of colored sandy rocks stretching from Bryce Canyon to the Grand Canyon. Recreational opportunities include camping, cycling, mountaineering, skiing, climbing, swimming and snorkeling.
Grand Canyon
Depending on which edge of the Grand Canyon you decide on, it will be a good day's ride from Las Vegas, but worth a visit. The Grand Canyon, carved over thousands of years through the cliffs of the Colorado Plateau, never ceases to be spectacular, with its beauty and size. If the scenic views are not enough, you can go hiking, mountaineering, cycling, bird watching, boating, camping, cross-country skiing, fishing, horseback riding, nature walks and much more.
