We all heard about Urban Legends, today I’m going to talk about ghost travelers or hitchhiking.
These are ghosts of people or sometimes animals that pursue a certain place, usually roads or recreation areas. Sometimes even cars !! They believe that they are persecuted, as a rule, because of the tragedy that occurred there, or some other strong emotional connection. Some are doomed to go on this particular route forever because of the sin they committed.
Some of the earliest recorded observations of ghost travelers date back to the 1600s in Europe and Russia. By that time, Washington Irving wrote his famous tale of the headless horseman in 1819 and 1820. Ghostly travelers seem solid, objective and real.
Some of the most famous ghostly urban legends are associated with phantom hitchhiking. Most of the time, phantom hitchhiking is a girl or a young woman, a damsel in distress. It can be seen male driver. Dressed in white, she suddenly appears in the headlights of the car. In most cases, it becomes wet, although it does not rain or there is no water in the area.
As soon as the driver stops and offers her a trip to where she is going, she will take and quietly climb into the back seat. Usually she goes to the next city or where the driver is going. Sometimes she gives her name to the driver, but this rarely happens.
The driver sometimes gives her a coat to warm her. He also constantly checks the rearview mirror, noting how beautiful it is. When the driver gets to the destination, the girl bakes him, she leaves when he stops the car and turns to her. If her clothes were wet, there was a wet spot on the car seat, or maybe a pool of water on the floor. Sometimes she leaves a handkerchief or a book.
The driver will go to the house indicated by the girl, he is met by a woman or sometimes a man and wife. They tell him that this happens every year. This is the anniversary of the death of their daughter. She was either killed or died in an accident in the place where she was first seen. She tries to do it at home every year, but fails. Parents show the driver a photograph of the girl, and this is really the girl he picked up. She also has the same outfit.
Now, here is an unexpected part, the driver will go to the girl’s grave, and if he keeps her jacket in the car, he will find her draped over her stone.
