Flytrap Brewing Co. Wilmington, North Carolina -2

Our destination: Wilmington, North Carolina, the bustling college town on the Cape Fairy River, where there is a lot of business and entertainment, as well as many well-established and novice breweries and beer bars.

This time we stopped at Flytrap Brewing Company , a young nano-brewery, which first opened in October 2014. My father, knowing our love of travel and brewing the study of the pub, sent us the news about the brewery. We could not resist the temptation of a trip to NC to check it out.

The brewery and packing are located in a small white brick building at the corner of N 4th St and Walnut, but do not let the size deceive you. Flytrap boasts 2 BBL brewing abilities - this means that one batch is about 27 cases of beer or about 12.5 barrels for your reference - with four main fermenters on hand to keep their taps charged with a unique variety of American and Belgian style ales that are constantly changing. There are some standards, but you never know what to push.

On the day of our visit, they had four Flytrap offers and five guest beers. The friendly bartender poured us two flights that included Flytrap hoppy tripel , Red Redder , Saison and Belgian blonde Everything is very tasty and unique, especially Tripel, which was made with a lot of American hops. I would call it Tripel IPA, if there really can be such a beer. Probably maybe. We see all kinds of API; Black IPAs, Rye IPAs, why not Tripel's Belgian IP address?

Cindy is Red Redder although she praised Hoppy tripel too, it is part of the Belgian style El and IPAs.

Ready to cook on the tap is also good, and the choice changes regularly, like the original Flytrap offers. Our flight is included Double barley TouchE IPA , Juice of the left bank , Eel River - IPA Emerald Triangle and a couple of others I forgot to write down.

The atmosphere is very calm, clean and cool. An industrial region with some ancient charm. They have an outdoor seating area where you can have lunch with your favorite food truck every Friday and Saturday, sometimes on a Thursday, between 7 pm and 10 pm, along with live music. Visit their website and check the calendar for more details.

Inside you can always have a snack or snacks provided by Veggie wagon , a local family-owned provider of Wilmington products from local farms and small batch manufacturers. We had some Baked stranded crackers with JalepeƱo Jack Beer Dip , A little hot, but very tolerant and very tasty.

Cindy wanted to return the remaining fall home, but when she turned to me, after a few minutes of communication with my sister, the failure was long gone, as were the chips. I smoothed the rest of the beer sample to extinguish the burn, but it was worth it.

Overall we found Flytrap very enjoyable. Great atmosphere with impressive original ales and friendly, knowledgeable staff. I highly recommend staying at this brewery if you are in the Wilmington, North Carolina area. Flytrap beer is worth a stop, and you can just meet someone interesting to talk to.

Of course, we’ll stop at Flytrap the next time we are in the city to see what surprises they have.
