Dijon is the historical capital of the province of Burgundy and is located in France. About a quarter of a million people live in the city. This city began as a Roman settlement and was on its way to Paris. It is believed that the patron saint of the city, Saint Benjin, introduced Christianity to the region. The city was the center of tremendous wealth and power while the Nazis occupied the city.

Attractions in Dijon

Many historic buildings in Dijon date back to ancient times. Museums, monasteries, archaeological sites and churches are some of the sights to visit in Dijon.

Palais des ducs et des etats de bourgogne is the most historic building in the city. It has a complex roof, built of ancient slabs and a trio of courtyards. The building was rebuilt over the centuries, and today there is a parliament.

Cartreuse de champmol this is a Carthusian monastery built by Philip the Bold. It was originally intended to be used as a tomb, but today there is a psychiatric hospital. Although people are not always allowed to enter the building, you can see the Moses Fountain from the gardens, which were designed in the fourteenth century. Gothic entrance must see.

Archaeological Museum has many relics found in the city.

Museo de la Vie Bourguignonne has a lot of costumes and samples of agricultural machinery. Many of these tools date back to the early nineteenth century.

Museum of Fine Arts It is part of the old palace and contains the richest museum in Dijon. The exhibition presents sculptures and cuisine of the Duke. Paintings and sculptures are part of the building. One of the best features on the display is a repetitive figure lying on a slab of black marble, surrounded by more than forty mourners.

Museum of Magnin was left in the city after the family died out. Many unique nineteenth-century antiques and other pieces of art are part of the collection left by the former owners. An eclectic display of pictures should definitely see.

Events in Dijon

Opera, antique shops, film festivals, street parties and music are annual events that people can enjoy while visiting this city.

Adventure festival This is an annual event in October, where you can watch dozens of documentaries showing sailing, hot air ballooning and other adventures of the brave. Learn more about the extreme life that some people enjoy.

Summer Opera in Burgundy was founded in 1999. This festival celebrates the opera and takes place in July every year. The elegant atmosphere of this festival combines modern operas with traditional opera houses.

Bareuzay Market happens every week on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This indoor and outdoor market is centered on the Central location, and it is a great place to gossip with the locals and buy all kinds of household products.

Exhibition Salon Antiques showcasing some of the best antiques that can be found in France. More than eighty antique dealers and 40 exhibitors provide access to their products at this fair, which has existed for thirty years.

Gresilles en fete This is an open festival that takes place every June. Street parties, concerts, contemporary dance, exhibitions, performing arts and photo contests are just some of the different activities you can enjoy at this festival.
