Sensitive teeth destroy your ice cream?

Sensitive teeth are one of the number one problems we see in our office. They can make people stop brushing their teeth in certain areas and avoid cold drinks and ice cream. Some clients tell my beautiful, sweet hygienist, Lenia, to avoid cleaning this tooth or part of the teeth. This makes them very sharp. She needs to do her job, and her teeth need a movie with plaques.

So what causes this? The teeth have 3 layers - enamel, dentin and nerve. Even in healthy mouths, gum recession can occur. No enamel under the gum. The surface of the root is open. This may be due to a number of reasons, brushing too hard or even how the tooth is in the bone. Another reason for which sensitivity may occur is related to the lines of cramps in the teeth. Small cracks in the enamel look like cracks in eggs. Cold seeps through the cracks.

When dentin or root surfaces are exposed, there are tiny pores that act like water slides and remove the cold directly into the nerve. What to do? CLOG the Pore. How? What for?

The frost of us was down the wall of the passage of toothpaste, looking for something to help with sensitivity. The most popular toothpaste is Sensodyne. Something to know about toothpastes is that they are ALL abrasive. Sensodyne works by applying a painkiller - potassium nitrate on the surface of the root. He informs you that the box is not intended for long-term use. A six-month offer can cost up to $ 48, and this is not a tooth healing.

In our office there are types of treatment. If it is an open root surface, we can put a material called a glass ionomer on the gum line. This material is called Vanish XT, made by 3M Corporation.

We clean a tooth, mix it, place it and illuminate it. This is not a fill.

Glass ionomers emit fluoride in the mouth every time when water is drunk or you are cleaning with fluoridated toothpaste. When is filling required? When the tooth is jagged by too clean a brush. You can see your tooth in the nerve, creating an abscess. This will require repair. It is best to see the dentist regularly to check which type of repair is best for your situation.

Another help with clogging the pores of your teeth is fluoride. Fluoride varnishes - the only treatment recommended for children under the age of 6 years. It is extremely effective. You can eat and drink immediately after placement. Traditional fluoride treatments to be effective last 4 minutes with a waiting period of 30 minutes. This usually entailed large foam trays, a suction device and a lot of ingestion and the possibility of a little sore after you could swallow some of the fluoride. New varnish will help to obtain sensitivity on the surfaces of the roots and surface cracks.

A non-fluorinated solution is prepared using calcium / phosphate with or without fluoride. Paste MI (among other products) is a calcium phosphate obtained with milk protein, casein. It helps by strengthening the teeth. This is not a toothpaste, it is not abrasive. A simple pea-sized app placed twice a day with your finger will help.

A prescription-based fluid with a pain reliever like Fluoridex also helps in these areas. The patients who placed Lenia on this toothpaste really made it easier for themselves to take a hygienic walk. Fluoridex (manufactured by Discus Dental) also has potassium nitrate in it, like sensodyne. This seems to be more effective due to the high level of fluoride in the tube. This is a low abrasion resistance, and in fact it is also included in the bleaching formula.

A combination of procedures may be recommended depending on what you have tried in the past.
