 Hiking Stone Mountain -2

This historic trail takes 3.8 miles, and this mountain was named by the American Indians as the Lonely Mountain, and the settlements call it Rock Fort Mountain. In 1560, Spanish explorers also visited this place and named it Crystal Mountain because of the quartz found around. In 1958 the place was bought by the state and turned it into a protected zone. The beginning of the trail is in the Confederation Hall on the left side of the railway. The exhibition in the hall includes geological and environmental information about Stone Hill and the history of the civil war.

From the Confederate Hall in Kamenny Mountain Park, cross the railway line right past the other rooms on the right. Then the path gradually approaches the top of the mountain. The path goes on a smooth path, but never rises. Go straight ahead when you follow the marker of the Stone Mountain Bike Trail or also known as the Cherokee Trail, about 0.3 miles in this rocky path.

Walk straight when you walk past a picnic area, where you will be left with a barbecue near the pavilion. From here, moving forward, the road climbs the steepest part of the path. Continue along the trail as you approach the Cherokee trail, where there is an engraved plaque denoting the Tropic of Stone Mountain. Continue on when you pass Bubble Gum Rock, where the gum, which is fed by visitors, leaves their chewing gum.

At this stage you will enjoy the beautiful scenes that nature can afford. Now continue the curve to the left when the path approaches some metal support structures drilled in the mountains. Rise to the top when you pass by spring, clusters of red moss thrive in it. Once you reach the top of the mountain, you will see the Skylift Dock and Museum. Nearby you will find a yellow painted rock with an arrow and the word Atlanta. This served as a guide for airplanes arriving from the northeast in the early 1920s, which indicate the city.

The peak marks the end of the trail, where you can now loop to return to the starting point. Follow the white line of the marker down the mountains to the road, which will then lead you to a protected and fenced habitat for fabulous shrimps. Turn left when you pass this return to the parking space.
