 Alaska Hot Springs -2

The state of Alaska is home to nearly eighty thermal springs with the highest concentration located along the line of volcanoes in the Alaska Peninsula and the Aleutian island chain. Another area of hot springs can be found in the southeastern part of the state, while other sources are scattered through the rest of the state. Many sources are in their natural state, but in the southeast many sources have been converted for usability. Areas range in quality from wooden removable caskets to luxury luxury resorts.

Thermal springs located in southeastern Alaska include:

Baranof Warm Springs : Located east of Sitka on Baranof Island in Warm Springs Bay. The springs are located next to a stunning 100-foot waterfall and are surrounded by lakes, rivers and streams covered with glaciers. There are nine springs of varying temperatures up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. The area is accessible by a charter of yachts, and wooden promenades connect the mountains to the village of Baranof.

Home Hot Springs : The Ketili River Found. Often using a canoe or kayak from the Hot Springs Slough circuit, these springs consist of two hot tubs. One bath is under the trees and has a wooden deck and a changing zone. The other is enclosed in a shielded structure with a dressing room. Nearby is a fire pit, picnic table and an extension.

Hot Springs Goddard : Located in the Hot Springs Bay on Baranof Island. This ancient spring is known for its healing properties. With housing in the area since the mid-1800s, the city of Sitka currently contains two stylish cedar baths in hot baths - these are shelters that offer both hot water from sources and cold water. This area is accessible by yacht charter and includes boardwalks and facilities.

Shelokum Hot Springs : Located on the Cleveland Peninsula. Thermal springs can be reached via a 2.2-mile trail that leads from Bailey Bay to Shelokum Lake. The only refuge is the tripartite structure. Sources are not disturbed and are home to algae.

Soda Springs Trocadero : Located on the west coast of Prince of Wales Island near Craig. These are carbonated springs that bubble and hiss. In the vicinity of spring there is a unique landscape of craters and mounds with a color ranging from pale yellow to brick red. Available only by boat, trekking to the springs is good for observing bears, but be extremely careful. It is said that water has a “sharp, pleasant taste” and is odorless.

Gray hot springs : Located in the western part of Chichagof Jacobi. Thanks to the charter of yachts from Zerkalnaya harbor, the springs are only 0.8 miles from the water. Originally named Hoonah Warm Springs, the springs were renamed after the dentist. The bath has a fiberglass screen that allows visitors to enjoy the view of the Pacific Ocean while enjoying the hot water.
