This is a wonderful book with a special and unique style of poetry. This is the fourth book written by Mary Oliver, which I enjoyed reading. The first part of the book begins with the poem "Seven White Butterflies", which is so beautiful. One can see beautiful images of butterflies doing what they do best, as shown by Oliver.
The “Three Songs” series is very inspiring and will lift the mind while reading. If you are in a singing mood, the words in these parts will make you hum the melodies as you read. These are wonderful things to soothe the soul.
The book is divided into three parts. In each part there is a mixture of beautiful poems to relax and strengthen the mind in a poetic way. The second part consists mainly of prose poetry with diverse mixtures and powerful images. One of the poems in the second part refers to cricket. One of them is able to follow the theme passing through this play, in a pleasant manner, without missing the rhythm in the lines.
Part three is also phenomenal! The words in “Have you ever tried to enter long black branches” evenly heaved and inspired. This part will stretch the imagination to think while reading. The poetic architecture used by Oliver gives each poem and a different look that pleases the eye when you read the lines. Mary Oliver certainly gave us inspiring foresight in the nature of God. Her love for the natural environment and the open air provided in this book many gold nuggets. This is a wonderful book on poetry, which is read to calm the mind, body and soul.
