Do you know that there really is an anti-scaling research group? There is, and the group is studying the causes and consequences of delay for our well-being.
Bottom line? This has a very real and negative impact on our lives. Not surprising.
But as solo professionals, our business and our life are so closely related. Procrastination directly affects our ability to earn income, because we are solely responsible for this, without corporate payment! This, in turn, reduces the lifestyle we had in mind when we started our business.
I was actually a little bit into writing this article. I stopped several times to check emails or surf off-topic during my research. What for?
- First, I was not sure what to write, because procrastination is such a big topic.
- Secondly, I knew that additional research would be required before the study began.
Bingo! After I entered the study, when I realized that these two experiences are described in much of what I considered.
Procrastination is rooted in two large areas: knowledge and demand.
the first area is knowledge When something in our business directly challenges our level of knowledge, we feel threatened. The brain is connected to reduce the threat, and we focus our energies elsewhere on smaller stretching tasks. This can be email, web surfing, letting go of the dog or checking out the laundry.
the second area is demand and especially it takes time. In today's world, we are raising awareness of productivity, but this is not always the right performance. Many claims are made from the outside, and this can cause resentment and delay. Have you noticed that these requirements also fuel a lot of mental energy?
As solo professionals, a shift is needed when we allow temporal requirements to arise - from external requirements to better internal requirements. This means that we choose where we spend our time, and ideally look forward to those tasks that are important for the growth of our business, so we solve them! And outsource the rest.
