How to buy and distribute mulch in your garden or landscape design -2

Applying mulch or landscaping mulch is one of the easiest ways to conserve a garden. You are by no means limited to organic mulch, such as compounded manure or shredded leaves. Because organic mulch takes time to produce (through composting), you can simply choose inorganic mulch or synthetic mulch.

Although these two terms may seem identical to many, in fact it is not. Synthetic landscaped mulch is primarily made from plastics and fabrics, while inorganic mulches can include smooth pebble mulches and gravel.

Buying the right type of landscaping mulch

If you want to place mulch on shrubs around the house, then the best choice would be plastic mulch (black plastic sheets) or landscape fabrics. These materials are quite durable and accessible everywhere.

In addition to artisanal stains, you can use plastic mulch in places where you will not work much. If you need to make some adjustments to your landscape design, you will have to remove the plastic sheets first and reinstall some fresh sheets when you do the work with the soil.

This takes time (and no one likes to do extra work), so make sure that the area will remain untouched for most of the year when installing sheets or fabric. Walks and areas near large trees are a great choice for plastic mulch.

Still confused with the best places to use plastic mulch? Ask yourself: Do you need this area for regular fertilizer use? If so, this is not a good place to use fabric / plastic mulch. On the bright side, the use of this type of mulch also prevails over the growth of weeds. Therefore, after installing the sheets, you do not have to make threads for a month.

When installing plastic sheets, make sure that you punch holes through the plastic so that air and humidity penetrate into the mulch. Although this material skillfully promotes the growth of weeds by strangling seeds and roots, it can also strangle your own plants if it is not properly prepared.

Ensure that drainage for garden beds is also sufficient; otherwise unsightly puddles form. Problems with drainage are less common when you use landscape mulch. Since it is a fabric, it absorbs and allows water to flow quite easily.

Gravel mulch and stone mulch

Inorganic mulches, such as gravel, provide two main advantages: additional heat and efficient water drainage. If you live in a cool region in the country, and want to keep a garden of tropical herbs and plants, then gravel or stone mulch will be ideal.

Herbs are sun and heat-loving plants, but they also need a lot of moisture to thrive in home gardens. Gravel, as a rule, retains heat, but at the same time prevents complete loss of moisture from the soil.

As plastic sheets or gardening fabrics, stones and gravel are difficult to remove, so be absolutely sure that this is your best choice before buying and distributing them through your garden. You don’t want to dig stones in a few weeks because you don’t like the way they look (and they can look pretty dry).
