4 What to do in Cefalu, Sicily -2

Cefalu is a beautiful city. If you love holidays, where you eat, read, enjoy the beautiful views and the beach, you will feel at home. But, even if you are traveling on the go or want to break your complete relaxation (Dolce far niente, in Italian, “Sweet does nothing”), Cefalu has a lot to offer:

1. Shopping

The two main streets of the city are filled with shops. From upscale clothing boutiques to local clothes, potters, ceramics and food in this city has it all. In addition, there are cafes, pastry shops, pizzerias and restaurants between the shops.

2. Boat ride

As the island is surrounded by the beautiful, clear waters of the Mediterranean, any boat trail, from a short 1-hour tour to a three-day voyage, will offer you spectacular views.

From Cefalu you can take a boat to the Aeolian Islands. Tours are usually offered, and a trip to the islands can take a day or more, depending on how deeply you explore. But, walking or returning, be prepared to be overwhelmed by beauty.

3. Climb the mountain

La Rocca (Scala) is a very small mountain in the historic center of Cefalu. It was used as a fortress several hundred years ago and as a place of worship among ancient Greek settlers.

Since the city was originally built on La Rocca, steps are carved into the mountain, so it is easily accessible to anyone. When you climb, you will see magnificent plants, trees, wildlife and wild nature.

At various points on the hill you can see the walls and thermal baths, and at the end you will find the ruins of ancient Greek temples that were built for the gods.

4. Go fishing

Pescaturismo (fishing tourism) is becoming increasingly popular. Since Cefalu is a port city, fishing is one of the oldest professions here. Sardines swim freely and are visible from a quarter of a mile long wharf from the shore or even when you swim in the water near the beach. Small wooden boats run every day to catch sardines and other small fish right off the coast.

If you want to rely on how the people of Sicily put food on their table, and continued to do so for several hundred years, go fishing.

And more ...

In this ancient port city there are also sightseeing tours, food tours, walking tours and about a million other things.
