Last Friday, shortly before 2 am, heavily armed "Sicarii" (murderers) shot at a crowd in a bar in the entertainment district of Guanteros, usually peaceful Envigado, a suburb of Medellín. The death toll and eight wounded. None of the deadly victims had a criminal record, but in fact was a US citizen who had recently moved to the area. At that time, in the Guru bar, there were two police officers without trial who were injured when the fire returned. The criminals escaped from the scene on a motorcycle with a high cylinder, the preferred mode of transport for the killers in Colombia. Witnesses claim that the motorcycle was followed by a car with several male inhabitants, who may have been security officials, those who provided the job.
Shooting with more than one victim is not unusual in the region of Medellín, where the war that broke out between drug trafficking gangs led to the fact that in 2009 the number of inhabitants of the megalopolis exceeded 2,000 people, and this year more than 1,000. the numbers are a clear reminder of the days when the cartels ruled Colombia and the morgues were overflowing with the corpses of young people. While the latest statistics are still far from the record levels reached during this era, the growing tally is worrying, reversing the previous trend that showed falling numbers, breaking around 800 in 2007, which is comparable to any major American city .
What is unusual about the murder in Envigado is the indiscriminate way in which the killers sprayed the bar with bullets, something that hasn’t been seen since Pablo Escobar’s time in this city, which has the dubious honor of being a drug business; central central part of the 80s. According to the police, the alleged target that the drug dealer was looking for by law ran away unscathed and, apparently, voluntarily surrendered to the police, seeking protection from those who want to die. Police claim that the shooting from Envigado was part of the ongoing territorial war between Sebastian and Valenciano, the leaders of two large gangs. The US and Colombian authorities are offering a multi-million ransom for their takeover.
