Genital pruritus - yeast infection or allergies? -2

The cause of itching and burning in the vaginal area is often a fungal infection. However, doctors today are seeing an increase in contact allergies caused by synthetic fragrances in hygienic products or detergents.

These are the main distinguishing characteristics: with symptoms such as itching and burning in the intimate area, it seems reasonable to think about a yeast infection. However, vaginal yeast infection is not always responsible for the suffering. In particular, if antifungal therapy does not improve, the likelihood is that the problem is caused by allergies. Triggers can be fragrances and preservatives in washing lotion, vaginal sprays, toilet paper or pantilor with which the skin comes into contact. But also detergents and latex condoms sometimes cause allergic reactions. In such cases, doctors talk about contact allergies. As with other allergies, the body reacts to substances that are actually harmless. However, the immune system identifies them as alien and activates special protective cells. As a result, it comes to redness and itching at the point of contact. With a strong reaction, the skin may swell, it may reach blisters and dampness.

Although symptoms usually disappear after a few days, contact allergies usually remain lifelong. This condition may precede when the patient avoids triggering substances. If these substances are unknown, you can use special ointments that relieve itching and rashes if necessary.

Quite often, it is not so easy to find the trigger of contact allergy - problems usually arise not up to three days after contact with an allergen. If you suspect that discomfort appears with certain hygienic products or detergents, you should consult a dermatologist. He can determine specific tests if and when contact allergies exist and which substances respond.

When triggers are recognized, the disorder can be caused by avoiding the relevant substances.

Vaginal discharge that resembles cottage cheese indicates vaginal infection. A white, crumbly discharge along with itching and burning implies the presence of a vaginal yeast infection. This infection is mainly caused by the yeast fungus Candida albicans. This fungus naturally lives in our intestines and can be transported between other towels and towels, in pools and saunas and through sexual intercourse if the partner is infected.

Women often develop a yeast infection when the vaginal flora is out of balance. This happens, for example, due to weak immune protection, endocrine disorders, diseases such as diabetes, stress, or even excessive hygiene with aggressive soap or a deodorizing spray for the genital area.

Vaginal yeast infection can be treated with an antifungal agent. Doctors generally recommend combination preparations containing vaginal tablets for insertion into the vagina, as well as cream for external use. Standard products can be purchased at the pharmacy. It is very important to follow the instructions of the flyers (usually the application takes three or six days), even if the suffering has subsided. Premature discontinuation of therapy may result in the reappearance of infection.
