This article will help you build your local accounts, "more or less."
gas
Remember the old expression “Now Your Cooking with Gas”? Well, this is what we do here every day. We also heat the water, dry our clothes and in a rare case, to take away the cold of our homes for a few cold nights here. Some people who do not use solar energy also heat their pools with gas.
When I say gas, I mean propane gas, not natural gas. The pictured is a typical propane tank.
Most couples believe that their gas costs an average of about $ 25 per month.
Electricity
Electricity is only available from one source: Federal Power Plant (CFE), a state monopoly. You have to pay on time, wherever you get your bill. The bill covers two months.
There are several different levels in the pricing of electricity. The goal is to save, because the more you use, the more you pay PER KILOWATT HOUR.
We use approx. $ 38 USD per month. In most cases, we have two televisions, two computers and many electrical appliances.
phone
Local telephone service for 100 calls per month is about $ 18.
Telephone service is provided by Tel-Mex (close monopoly). Many people do cell phones. I rarely use my home phone.
My local mobile service is from Movie Star, and I get a free long distance in Mexico with my Movie Star service, so I use it for almost all calls in Mexico, including local calls. My monthly bill for my cell manages me from $ 23 to $ 40 per month (I use a lot for business).
water
My water is included as part of my homeowners, but if I lived in the city, and not in my area, I would pay about $ 150 dollars a year for water.
Homeowners
Fees vary from neighborhood to quarter, depending on the efficiency of the neighboring association, the services provided and the size of the neighborhood (from $ 25 to $ 200).
At Chapala Haciendas, where I live, our contributions are $ 50 per month. I get all the water I want (excluding meters), street lights, twice a week dumping garbage, once a weekly garden garbage, repairing the street and additional police patrols. We also have a bilingual secretary and an office open to the MF, from 9:00 to 15:00.
Satellite TV
We have 3 main satellite TV companies (Star Choice, Sky and Dish), which, like in the USA or Canada, are related to packages and prices.
the Internet
Dial-up is everywhere in the area. High speed almost everywhere. Four firms provide high-speed service.
I use three of my four offices and homes.
At home, I have DirectWay, which is a direct satellite connection for my high speed, and I am also in the process of reinstalling Mexico Wireless.
In my office, I use Tel Mex® Infinitum (DSL), which is most reliable if you are in a serviced area.
Another wireless provider called Laguna Net also provides good wireless service from Ajidjik to the western end of the lake.
My Tel Mex DSL is high and runs about $ 23 per month. My companion is working at a whopping $ 83 / month, which includes the rental of expensive direct uplink equipment to the satellite every month. I hope I can give up on this when my connection in Mexico works well.
